Part of me really does not love this, given that Diablo’s Lord of Destruction and Reaper of Souls were such seminal parts of D2 and D3
Diablo 4 Gold. Reaper of Souls in particular was the moment D3 really turned things around, and it added a huge amount of content and totally revamped how the game was played.
I am also worried about a game promising to provide meaningful story content every three months. Without fail, almost every live game that has tried to stick to a roadmap with substantive PvE content on a seasonal basis has failed.
Only a very few have succeeded like Destiny 2 or Genshin Impact, and of course those games have still had plenty of struggles. So while I hope this would go well, I think it’s plenty appropriate to be skeptical. And also to miss the idea of a large expansion, if that is in fact what’s happening here.
We already have gotten some indication that Blizzard has been shying away from expansions for a game like this for some time. With blockbuster Diablo 3 and Reaper sales, no one really understood why another expansion was ever made for D3, and what appeared to be parts of an expansion, new zones, a couple quests, the Necromancer class, were released piecemeal later. So if Diablo 3 couldn’t get one more expansion together when it had every reason to
buy Diablo IV Gold, perhaps that was the beginning of ditching the concept entirely.
