Although these can be enjoyable, they're being forced to do the same repeated thing over and over again - time that may or may not be better spent through a couple of shorter but no less traditional video games.
Instead of being a one-way combat, RuneScape is a painstaking war of attrition that is very long and tiring, and it never ever ends. It can also be satisfying if you're willing to put the time into it, which I was. At the very least, for a whole one or two years.
I've never played any MMORPGs sincethen, to my permanent sadness and regret. Life's demands are a lot more intense and I don't have the time let them suck me in. As with all games that I've played, RuneScape is by far the longest-running, with many levels to be completed and things to gather. Some have even died during or in the aftermath of long sessions of RuneScape's more youthful but popular sibling, World of Warcraft that I'm guessing also makes it a horror game.
In the present, you'll generally find me in Quake or Half-Life or playing Team Fortress 2 - games that come in force leave their marks and disappear quickly. It's great to play something I enjoy and go on to forget about it quickly, and not worrying about how many pieces of wood I have on my shelves or where I'll be fishing for tomorrow's session.
